WHO I AM AS AN EDUCATOR
I began my teaching career in Chilliwack in September 1987. There were no “middle schools” in British Columbia at that time. However, there was a Junior High School in Sardis – Vedder Junior Secondary School (grades 8 – 10) – and that is where I started in this profession. I began teaching Science and Math at the Grade 10 level, and have never looked back! When Chilliwack school district embraced middle schools, I was right there in the “trenches” for the transition years.
After my tenth consecutive year of teaching (during which time Vedder Junior Secondary School became Vedder Middle School), I took a year away from the profession to be a full-time stay at home Dad for my two young sons. That was an amazing period of time in my life that I cherish to this day.
In 1996, Mount Slesse Middle School opened its doors. I became a member of the staff in September 1997 after returning from my full time job of being a Dad.
Thirty years have passed since I walked into my first classroom, yet teaching students at the middle school level is still my passion. I strive to earn the respect of all students and to help them reach their potential as life learners. Please help me to do this by encouraging your child to work to his/her potential.
